Marvin Wilson, DT, Florida State

Another player who looked like a top pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, and even could have been a first round draft pick in hindsight is Florida State defensive tackle Marvin Wilson. He got hit with a season ending injury in 2019, maybe striking a bit of fear into his draft stock, but given that only three defensive tackles went in the top-40, he passed up a lot of guaranteed money.

Not only that, but now Florida State has worked through a fiasco (with Wilson at the forefront) regarding their new head coach Mike Norvell. After Norvell made a statement saying he met with every player in regards to the death of George Floyd, Wilson stood up for his teammates claiming that only a manufactured text had been sent.

Wilson has proven to be a tremendous leader, teammate, and voice in Tallahassee, Florida; he will be an asset and a foundation for any NFL franchise, but had he declared for the 2020 NFL Draft, he would not have had the pressure of standing up to a new head coach and he could have been a top-40 pick.

In the end, however, Wilson’s voice was appreciated by Norvell, they are working towards a reconciliation, and the defensive tackle has a chance to show he has no lingering effect from his injury.
