Former five-star recruit Eyabi Anoma heading to FCS UT-Martin
By Cory Kinnan
Eyabi Anoma is on his third team in three years
Less than two years after landing with the Alabama Crimson Tide as a five-star recruit, linebacker Eyabi Anoma has fallen all the way to the FCS level. Anoma was a part of Bama’s esteemed 2018 recruiting class, and in less than two years is already on his third team.
Anoma was dismissed by the Crimson Tide due to a violation of team rules, as well as issues with his performance in the classroom (leading to his dismissal from the school as well). He then headed to the University of Houston in 2019 to try and revive his career; instead, he was dismissed in February from the Cougars as well.
The former top-five recruit in the nation reportedly still struggled in the classroom, skipping classes, clashing with teammates, and violating team rules at Houston as well. His recruitment opened up for the third time this Spring, and evidently no FBS school, let alone a power-five school was willing to bite at Anoma.

Instead, Anoma is now heading to the State of Tennessee, as he has landed with UT-Martin to resume his playing career. This seems to be Anoma’s last chance to earn his keep as a college football player, but his time at a high profile program seems to be permanently over, and his path to the NFL has gotten far harder.
"“It has been very draining emotionally, physically and mentally; however, I would like to apologize to the staff and my teammates at the University of Alabama as well as the University of Houston for my actions prior to today. I am learning everyday that every action has a consequence, and it is my responsibility to decide whether or not my actions will be positive or negative. As a young man, I can only take things one day at time and continue to transition into the man that Gods want me to be. I want to say thank you to my supporters and family for not giving up on me when things started to get difficult. After speaking with my family, I have decided that it would be best to move closer to my family in Tennessee. I would like to share with y’all that I will be committing to … Go SkyHawks. Thank you coaches for the Opportunity” (via Twitter)."
Only playing six games in two seasons thus far after redshirting at Houston in 2019, Anoma still has three years of eligibility remaining. He has recorded only nine tackles in his career, all coming as a true freshman at Alabama in 2018.
