Could Trey Lance be new quarterback for Raiders via 2021 NFL Draft?
Trey Lance to the Raiders in the 2021 NFL Draft? Don’t sleep on it.
The 2021 NFL Draft quarterback class has been one that has gotten tons and tons of attention for a few years now. While the Raiders have not taken a quarterback with a high asset since Derek Carr, he could be entering a make-or-break year. There is a new quarterback in town who is making a name for himself who may just be a fit for Jon Gruden in North Dakota State’s redshirt sophomore Trey Lance.
Justin Fields and Trevor Lawrence both had led their teams to the College Football Playoffs last season and Lawrence has been to the Championship game twice and has actually one once against the Alabama Crimson Tide. While both Fields and Lawrence are considered to be generational prospects at the quarterback position, Lance demands to be inserted into the conversation for at least QB2 in the 2021 NFL Draft.
As a redshirt freshman for the Bison, Lance completed 67 percent of his passes and threw 28 touchdowns to zero interceptions. That is a stat line that will turn your head and make you watch his tape, and the tape itself is quite impressive.

In a recent piece by Todd McShay of ESPN, he ranked the top-32 players for the 2021 NFL Draft ahead of the college football season. McShay had Lance ranked at No.5, McShay believes Lance could be a franchise quarterback in the NFL.
A snippet of McShay thoughts on Trey Lance:
"“Don’t sleep on this FCS signal-caller. Lance has size and toughness at the quarterback position. Last season, he didn’t throw a single interception, picked up 1,100 rushing yards and combined for 42 scores in all. He has just one career 300-plus-passing-yard game, and we haven’t yet seen him in action against an FBS foe, so scouts will be watching the Bison’s 2020 opener against Oregon very closely.”"
While the Raiders aren’t in the market for a quarterback yet, it is safe to say that 2020 is a big year for Derek Carr and newly acquired Marcus Mariota. If one of them does not prove to be the answer at quarterback for the Raiders, Lance could be a very interesting player to monitor in this year’s upcoming draft class.
If Trey Lance can build off of his fantastic 2019 season, he could a surefire first round pick come next April. Make sure to keep an eye out for North Dakota State prospect Trey Lance as he could be the new Las Vegas Raiders quarterback as soon as 2021.
