LSU Football: Marcel Brooks looks for clearer waters, enters transfer portal

LSU Football is looking thin at LB after Marcel Brooks enters the portal
Fresh off of a national championship win, the LSU Football Tigers lost the majority of their starting lineup out of the SEC West; this includes two of their starting linebackers in Patrick Queen and Jacob Phillips. Now entering the 2020 season, the defending national champions will be even slimmer at the position, as Marcel Brooks has entered the transfer portal after just one season in the Bayou.
Brooks, a former five-star recruit, saw playing time right away, although sparingly, as a freshman a season ago. Recruited as a linebacker, listed at a safety, Brooks displays versatility to be a moving chess piece on the defensive side of the football; he is listed at 6-2 and 194 pounds.
As a freshman, he recorded eight tackles, one and a half sacks, and one and a half tackles behind the line of scrimmage. After the large departure of players from the roster, and given his high recruitment status, this comes as a bit of a shock to see Brooks enter the portal.
Used as a situational pass rusher a year ago, new defensive coordinator and former Nebraska Cornhuskers’ head coach Bo Pelini has been transitioning him to a full time linebacker this offseason. This relationship between him and his new defensive coordinator could have played a role in this decision.
Where could Marcel Brooks land?

This is a difficult question to parse through this early in his re-recruitment stage, as Brooks had offers from just about every major power five team including Ohio State, Oklahoma, Texas, Oregon, and more (via 247 Sports). Brooks is, however, from the state of Texas, so if a return closer to home is his desire then that would narrow down his list significantly.
Within the state of Texas, Brooks has received offers from Texas (as previously mentioned), TCU, Houston, Texas A&M, Southern Methodist, and Baylor. It would appear, at bare minimum, Brooks has six schools to reconsider.
However, Brooks could still remain at LSU after all of this chaos of entering the portal, and could be using this as an opportunity to re-evaluate his options:
While Brooks will not be eligible for the NFL Draft for another year, a player of his stature coming out of high school is bound to land on the majority of watchlists come time for him to declare. Does he stay or does he go? Marcel Brooks has a life-altering decision to make.
