Brett Favre has a thought on how the Packers could use Jordan Love in 2020

When the Green Bay Packers used their first round pick on Utah State quarterback Jordan Love, most of the draft community was shocked. Now the Packers have a plan far into the future when Aaron Rodgers is long gone, but another legendary Green Bay quarterback has another plan on how to use Love right away.

Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre sat down with TMZ and discussed with them the addition of Love, and thought it would be a wise idea for the Packers to use their future franchise quarterback in a similar role to that of Taysom Hill of the New Orleans Saints. On this Zoom call, Favre stated:

"“I think there’s ways to incorporate it much like Taysom Hill with the Saints… Use him as a halfback, a halfback pass, but occasionally let him run it just to show that you’ll do that. Something like that” (Favre via TMZ)."

This is quite the ambitious usage for Love, a quarterback with insane arm talent that must be nurtured. While it has worked with Hill and the Saints, it is not a plan the Packers should deploy with the former Utah State quarterback.

Why Favre is wrong on this one

Sure, the Saints have found success in using Hill in an H-back, chess piece on the offensive side of the football. However, there is many major differences between Hill and Love, but the most pertinent piece of information being that one is a future face of the franchise and the other is not.

No matter how often the stories get leaked that Sean Payton and the Saints view Hill as the heir to Drew Brees, nobody believes it (nor should they). Hill is a former undrafted free agent, 30 year old three-year vet who has attempted a total of 13 passes in his career; nobody is buying the lead that Hill is set to lead the Saints into the future.

Love on the other hand, is a first round pick, set to take over the reigns for Rodgers when the time comes. Instead of jeopardizing the future face of their franchise in gadget roles as a rookie, the Packers should use that time instead to nurture his arm talent and help him in the understanding of their playbook.

Sorry Brett, you are a hall of fame quarterback, but no.

There is no need to put Love in unnecessary situations where his health can be put at risk. Jordan Love is not Taysom Hill, and vise versa. Let the man who was drafted to lead the Packers deep into the future learn his playbook and absorb every ounce of coaching he can get as a rookie.
