An injury ends college career of 2021 NFL Draft prospect Corey Dauphine

In a sad turn of events, Tulane running back and 2021 NFL Draft prospect Corey Dauphine has been forced to retire from football after suffering a torn achilles. For Dauphine, a Texas Tech transfer, he was already granted a sixth year injury redshirt prior to this, so the achilles was the end of the road.

In two seasons with the Green Wave to this point, Dauphine had tallied a total of 14 touchdowns and nearly 1,400 yards on the ground. Averaging about seven yards per carry, Dauphine figured to take over as the lead back for the Green Wave in 2020. Now it appears Tyjae Spears is the next man up for Tulane in 2020 after the injury to Dauphine.

He becomes the second player in as many weeks to see their college career come to an end due to injuries, as TCU quarterback Matthew Baldwin called it quits last week. However, that may be a bit premature for the Green Wave running back, as it does not sound like, Dauphine is done with his dream of playing in the NFL, posting this statement to social media:

"“When the doctor told me, My college career is over after I’ve torn my Achilles. It killed me hearing those words come out of his mouth. I had so much to prove this season, I wanted the world to feel me. I wanted the world to hear my story. This will not stop me from chasing my dreams, and accomplishing my goals that I’ve set. I will comeback better than ever !!! (Dauphine via NBC Sports).”"

Is there a path to football again?

There are some wild cases in which players have been granted seventh year eligibility waivers due to injuries, but those cases are rare. Either pursuing an NFL dream via the NFL Draft in 2021 or by getting a waiver for another year of college football, Dauphine is not ready to throw in the towel.

Nothing wished but a speedy recovery for the former Red Raider and Green Wave running back as he battles back from a torn achilles. Corey Dauphine is not done just yet, so he could still be in play for the 2021 NFL Draft as he hopes to fight for his NFL dream.
