Now, they have had a league-high number of players who have opted out of the 2020 season, putting them at a significant disadvantage as they gear up for the season. With Newton on a one-year deal, they are now firmly in the conversation for the number one overall pick front-runner in Lawrence.
Not to be outdone by their division rivals, the New York Jets have seemingly plummeted as well. Other than retaining Adam Gase as their head coach, the Jets have now traded star safety, Jamal Adams, to the Seattle Seahawks, adding a ton of draft capital to their name. Pro Bowl linebacker C.J. Mosley has opted out, and they have cut starting guard Brian Winters.
Draft capital? Check. Likely a new head coach should failures ensue in 2020? Check. If Sam Darnold struggles in 2020, then it is full steam ahead for the Jets and Lawrence in the 2021 NFL Draft.
Outside of these two AFC East foes, who is set to join then in the Tank for Trevor campaign?
