Tantalizing and athletic OT Jalen Mayfield declares for 2021 NFL Draft
By Cory Kinnan
Jalen Mayfield has the 2021 NFL Draft on his mind…
Big Ten commissioner Kevin Warren made the tough and criticized decision to postpone all Fall sports back to the Spring. This has left many college football players in limbo as they were looking for another year’s worth of film to add to their portfolio. One player who is no longer willing to wait and risk an injury and uncertainty of playing in the Spring is Michigan offensive tackle Jalen Mayfield as he has declared for the 2021 NFL Draft.
While Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields wrote a petition that has gone viral and collected tens of thousands of signatures, the Big Ten is highly unlikely to reverse their decision. Not a single soul can blame a young man like Mayfield for making the decision that is best for his future and for his body.

Currently ranked as this writer’s fourth overall offensive tackle in this draft class, Mayfield brings a high upside and athletic ceiling to the 2021 NFL Draft. Currently being mocked anywhere between the midway point of the first round and the beginning of the second round, Mayfield will not have to wait long in order to hear his name called.
He has great feet in his pass set and can get lateral, to the boundary, and up to the second level with ease in the run game as well. While his hands are a bit raw and he is still just a younger starter in the class, Mayfield possesses the tools to become a great offensive tackle at the next level.
In a shallow class of offensive tackles, Mayfield has the potential to rise after the NFL Scouting Combine, an event where he should fare quite well. He has become the second offensive tackle to declare for the draft, joining FCS’s Spencer Brown, and will now have a handful of months to get his body in peak shape.
