Raiders: 2020 NFL Draft gem Bryan Edwards lighting it up
By Cory Kinnan
Bryan Edwards is out for blood early in training camp for the Raiders
Draft status means absolutely nothing to former South Carolina wide receiver Bryan Edwards. Despite landing in the third round to the Las Vegas Raiders, Edwards is out to prove he was one of the most slept on players in the 2020 NFL Draft as he is on a torrid pace with the Raiders to begin training camp.
Looking at the production of Edwards out of South Carolina
Last year it was second round pick of the San Francisco 49ers Deebo Samuel who had the buzz out of South Carolina. This year it was Edwards who landed with the Raiders a round later than Samuel. Both, however, posted ultra-productive careers with the Gamecocks before making the jump to the NFL.
In four years at South Carolina, Edwards racked up over 3,000 yards receiving and 22 touchdowns on 234 career catches. Entering the league fresh off his senior year where he racked up 816 yards through the air and six touchdowns on 71 catches, Edwards has been an analytical darling; he is backing it up on the field as well.

The buzz on Bryan Edwards
The Edwards hype train has been started by none other than the starting quarterback in Las Vegas, Derek Carr. Comparing Edwards to Green Bay Packers’ star wide receiver Davante Adams, Carr described Edwards as a “violent” route runner and a guy who can be trusted.
Vic Tafur, the Raiders’ beat writer from The Athletic, has been impressed with Edwards as well, stating:
"“Fellow rookie Bryan Edwards also continues to impress, making every kind of catch and showing he has hands and underrated speed to go with his size.”"
In fact, in team drills earlier this week, it was Edwards and not first round pick Henry Ruggs II who was getting reps with the first-team offense. While both are expected to make quite a bit of an impact both as rookies in 2020 and beyond, it is stunning how much Edwards was impressed already with the Raiders.
The passing attack in Las Vegas, as long as Carr can carry his load, has the looks of a high-powered attack. Led by Ruggs II and the ever-impressing Edwards, the Raiders have a solid and young receiving corps to carry well into the future.
