Coming off a career year, Ambry Thomas is off to the 2021 NFL Draft

The opt out train keeps rolling along, this time in the form of University of Michigan cornerback Ambry Thomas. In a year like none other, we have seen numerous players opt to enter the 2021 NFL Draft before the season has even started.

Due to the ongoing health risks of playing in 2020, and in Thomas’ case, the Big Ten canning their season, many players are opting for their own training in order to get ready for the NFL Scouting Combine. He now joins his teammate Jalen Mayfield as the second Wolverine to opt out this week.

Coming off the best year of his collegiate career as a Junior in 2019, Thomas racked up 30 solo tackles, including three behind the line of scrimmage. In coverage, Thomas tallied three interceptions for the Wolverines, and knocked down an additional three passes.

The wrap up his career in Ann Arbor, Thomas’ statline includes four interceptions, five fumble recoveries, and a forced fumble as he seems to have a knack for giving the ball back to his offense. He hopes that translates to his NFL career.

What he brings to the 2021 NFL Draft

Thomas will have plenty of opportunities to show off his talents before the 2021 NFL Draft in case teams are not sold on his one year of true starting experience. He was just named to the Reese’s Senior Bowl Top 250 watchlist yesterday, so it looks like a trip to Mobile, Alabama could be in his future as well.
