2021 NFL Draft WR Davontavean Martin brings big target to transfer portal
By Cory Kinnan
Davontavean Martin is house hunting with his 2021 NFL Draft stock looming
The transfer portal remains alive and well as multiple Division I conferences have postponed their seasons until the Spring. Joining them is now former Washington State wide receiver Davontavean Martin is in search of a new place to call home after three seasons with the Cougars after the Pac-12 has cancelled their Fall season. With his 2021 NFL Draft stock on the line, he likely had no other choice to make.
What Davontavean Martin brings on the field
Through three seasons with the Cougars, Martin had yet to break the 1,000 yard receiving mark. However, throughout his time at Washington State, he has scored 18 career touchdowns, showing his ability to flash as a redzone target with his big frame.

Listed at 6-foot-three and 186 pounds, Martin has the ability to go up and get jump balls, proving to be a reliable threat inside the 20-yard line. Thus far he has recorded over 1,600 yards receiving in addition to his 18 scores on 143 career catches. He is averaging just over 11 yards per reception throughout his collegiate career.
What is next for Martin?
Martin will have three power five conferences to choose from: the ACC, SEC, or Big-12. Given his need to boost his 2021 NFL Draft stock, it seems like a move to the Big-12, where the passing attacks are more high-powered and the defenses are weaker, may be the smartest decision for Martin to make.
Given the depth of the 2021 wide receiver class, he could even opt to return for another season beyond 2020 with the newly approved NCAA ruling to nix this season in terms of eligibility usage. Should he land in a high powered offense like that of Oklahoma, or even Clemson who is down a couple of receivers from a year ago, Martin could see an increase to his numbers in 2020.
