Dolphins release injured rookie Curtis Weaver after one week
Curtis Weaver lasted four months with the Dolphins
After pass rusher Vince Biegel went down with an achilles injury, it was widely expected that rookie fifth round pick Curtis Weaver would see more time. However, the Miami Dolphins decided to part ways with the rookie. Weaver was injured in practice and if he clears waivers, he will come back to Miami on the injured reserve. However, if the rest of the NFL views him as a young piece who can be molded, he is likely to be claimed.
The Dolphins have the tendency to churn the roster, especially the bottom of the roster. With Biegel already out, and big free agent addition Kyle Van Noy leaving practice early with an apparent injury, the Dolphins needed the roster spot more than they needed to secure having Weaver.
The Dolphins are getting thin in the edge rush department. They even decided to bring back pass rusher Trent Harris, who was released by the team earlier this off-season.

At the college level, Weaver was extremely productive. He left Boise State University as 2019 Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year. He projected as a player who could potentially start for an NFL team. At the time of the draft, he was viewed as a great value pick by Miami in the fifth round.
The Curtis Weaver situation with the Dolphins is a tricky one. The Twitter thread above from Dolphins beat writer Armando Salguero explains the entire situation between the two sides. Essentially, the team did not feel that Weaver had a real chance to make the roster.
Honestly, that says a lot about the young pass rusher considering the Biegel injury. They would be fine with losing him if he is claimed, but also would not mind retaining him on the injured reserve.
