Ja’Marr Chase heads to the 2021 NFL Draft amid turnover at LSU Football

Initially, LSU Football wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase had stated he was committed to playing for the Tigers in 2020 after winning a National Championship a year ago. However just today, Chase has pivoted as he has opted out of the 2020 season and declared for the 2021 NFL Draft.

Why Ja’Marr Chase made the right decision to enter the 2021 NFL Draft

A year ago, Ja’Marr Chase posted a truly historic stat line for the Tigers, and as a result, he was named as the Biletnikoff Award winner for the nation’s best wide receiver. However, in 2020, the odds were highly unlikely he would repeat his performance from the year before.

This year Chase would have been catching passes from first-year starter Myles Brennan rather than the Heisman Trophy winner and first overall pick Joe Burrow. Additionally, offensive coordinator from a year ago in Joe Brady made the switch to the NFL, taking the same job under Matt Rhule with the Carolina Panthers.

What Chase leaves from his time with LSU Football program

The Tigers are now set to lose both of their leading receivers from a year ago after Justin Jefferson landed in the first round with the Minnesota Vikings, and now Chase opting out. This leaves Terrace Marshall Jr. in a great position to lead the Tigers in receiving in 2020 with Chase and Jefferson departed.

They are losing perhaps the top wide receiver in the 2021 NFL Draft who racked up over 1,700 yards receiving and 20 touchdowns on 84 catches a year ago. Losing the 6-0 and 208 pound wide receiver will not be an easy replacement for LSU.
