2021 NFL Draft: Key prospects to watch in South Alabama vs. Southern Miss
By Cory Kinnan
Tim Jones, WR, Southern Miss
One prospect for the Golden Eagles who will, however, be suiting up tonight is their wide receiver Tim Jones. This past April Southern Miss had one of their receivers in Quez Watkins selected on day-three of the 2020 NFL Draft, now a member of the Philadelphia Eagles. Jones looks to follow in Watkins’ footsteps and hear his name called in the 2021 NFL Draft.
While Jones has yet to break 1,000 yards receiving in his career, he is poised to do so in 2020 after the departure of Watkins to the NFL. A year ago Jones tallied over 900 yards and three touchdowns on 73 catches for the Golden Eagles. Thus far in his career, he has totaled over 1,500 yards and five touchdowns receiving on 120 catches.
At 6-foot-1 and 192 pounds, Jones has the size necessary to play at the next level, and in his last year of eligibility it is all about showing on tape that he can succeed consistently against press coverage, make the tough catches, and be a playmaker with the ball in his hands for the Golden Eagles.
Look for him to peak 1,000 yards receiving this season as he is now the top dog in the Southern Miss receiver room.
