Trevor Lawrence confirms he’ll be the top pick in the 2021 NFL Draft
While there may have been little question entering the season who would be the top pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, there is now no uncertainty. Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence would have been the top pick in the draft the past two years had he been draft eligible, and in 2021, he will finally get that honor. Is it too early to crown him? Maybe, but no team would be wise to pass on perhaps the best quarterback prospect since Andrew Luck in 2012.
After just one week into his Junior year, Lawrence put together his usual performance of dropping dimes toward the boundary and down the field, proved to be more agile than he is given credit for, and has shown the poise and leadership to lead an NFL franchise at the next level.
How Trevor Lawrence fared against Wake Forest
As previously mentioned, Lawrence was phenomenal against the Demon Deacons as the Tigers went well on their way to a 37-13 blowout win. Only six passes hit the ground on 28 attempts as Lawrence completed over 78 percent of his passes; he threw for 351 yards on the night with one touchdown while rushing for an additional two scores.
He displayed other-worldly arm talent, spinning the ball into tight windows at ever level of the field. His pocket presence, footwork, and ability to dissect a defense pre-snap are all off the charts as Lawrence is poised to be a generational talent under-center.
The Tank for Trevor is on in 2021 NFL Draft
As he is as firmly seated as the top pick as they come, the Tank for Trevor campaign is now underway for NFL teams in need of a quarterback. However, the two probably teams who looked to be in on Lawrence, the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Chicago Bears, both came away with Week 1 wins to start their season.
Should the Jaguars and Bears turn their teams around, it will be an interesting race for the first pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. However, one thing is as certain as they get: Lawrence is the prized jewel of the draft, and it took him just one game to solidify that.
