EDGE Jordan Smith, UAB

They do not get more tantalizing from a physical makeup perspective than what UAB pass rusher Jordan Smith brings to the table with the 2021 NFL Draft on the table. While Smith is just a Junior for the Dragons and may not leave school early in pursuit of his NFL dream, he is listed at 6-foot-7 and 255 pounds and coming off of a productive Sophomore season in 2019.

A former four-star recruit and Florida transfer, Smith was suspended by the team in 2017 for a credit card fraud issue. He eventually left campus, landed at Butler Community College for a year before heading to Birmingham, Alabama to resume his collegiate career.

A year ago, Smith racked up eight sacks as a Sophomore, adding 11 tackles behind the line of scrimmage, and a whopping three forced fumbles for the Dragons. Through the first two games of this season, he has tallied two tackles behind the line of scrimmage, but has yet to get home for a sack. Against an offensive line like South Alabama’s, tonight may be a night where Smith wreaks havoc in the backfield as UAB vs. South Alabama gets set for kickoff.

Should UAB’s Smith have another breakout year for the Dragons, he could sneak his way into this year’s draft, as it is a big of a weaker crop of pass rushers he would be competing against for draft slots. He has a monster frame, has proven he can compete at the college level, and now will look to prove there is even another step in his progression with the NFL on the line. Keep an eye out for number 22 as the Dragons look to get back in the win column.
