2021 NFL Draft prospects rejoice as the Mountain West returns to action
The Football Bowl Subdivision is closing in on having a full return to play. The Mountain West Conference voted Thursday to play an eight-game schedule starting October 24, the same day the Big Ten will begin their football season. The conference made the official announcement Thursday night as the 2021 NFL Draft prospects in that conference rejoice; they get one more year to wow NFL scouts and general managers.
Like some of the other conferences, the Mountain West will hold their championship game on December 19, the day before Selection Sunday.

With the Mountain West returning to play, that leaves just the MAC as the only FBS conference not yet playing football in the fall, but you have to figure they will be announcing their return very shortly. They don’t want to be the only FBS conference not playing football in the fall, and according to Pete Thamel of Yahoo Sports, the MAC will meet Friday and there is optimism the league will return to play in early November.
First, SEC Football gets kicked off this weekend, then the Pac-12 and Big Ten announce their return, now the Mountain West joins the party. While the ongoing health crisis lingers, at least some normalcy is returning.
There weren’t any teams ranked in the AP Preseason Top 25, but Boise State was the third team out at number 28.
Which 2021 NFL Draft prospects have most on line?
The return to play in the Mountain West means we’ll get a chance to see some intriguing prospects from the conference, including San Diego State safety Tariq Thompson, San Jose State WR Tre Walker and Hawaii WR Rico Bussey Jr.
Colorado State wide receiver Warren Jackson had already decided to opt out of the 2020 season and prepare for the NFL Draft and has already signed with an agent. He would need a waiver from the NCAA (similar to what could happen with a player like Minnesota wide receiver Rashod Bateman) if he would want to come back and play for the Rams in 2020.
