Returning to school has hurt the 2021 NFL Draft stock of three seniors

The Florida State Seminoles looked to get a program reset after the firing of former head coach Willie Taggart and the hiring of Mike Norvell. However, less than a year into the Norvell era, things have been less than ideal for the Seminoles in 2020, and now a handful of players with 2021 NFL Draft potential are suffering as a result.

While quarterback James Blackman is not one of those names who was likely to enter the draft, it was announced today that he has opted out for the rest of the season and will now look to transfer elsewhere in 2021. This was not the only roster news of the day in Tallahassee, however, and the others are more detrimental to the team.

Three Seniors who opted to return to school, Marvin Wilson, Tamorrion Terry, and Hamsah Nasirildeen, have seemingly made a grave mistake.

More from With the First Pick

Marvin Wilson now out for the year

After suffering a season-ending injury a year ago, defensive tackle and leader of the team Marvin Wilson has once again been struck with misfortune as he is out with another season-ending injury. At the end of the year, Wilson was being projected as a top-60 pick, but he opted to return to school for this Senior year in Tallahassee.

Now, a year older, another significant injury to his name, and likely limited athletic upside to be determined at the NFL Scouting Combine, Wilson is set to free fall when the 2021 NFL Draft rolls around this upcoming April. He finished his final season with just one sack and two tackles behind the line of scrimmage for the Seminoles.

Listed as a consensus top defensive tackle, it will be interesting to see how far Wilson drops as he will now more than likely no longer be a first round pick. Look out for USC’s Jay Tufele or Alabama’s Christian Barmore to take over the DT1 throne.

Tamorrion Terry looks off to the 2021 NFL Draft

It has been a rough year for the Senior receiver in Terry.

After returning to school, then rumors he might transfer, Terry ultimately stayed in Tallahassee. Now today, Norvell announced Terry is no longer with the program as there have been reports of conflict between him and the coaching staff. His 2020 season finished with just 289 yards receiving and one touchdown in six games.

Terry must now hope that he gets an invitation to the Reese’s Senior Bowl, an event where NFL scouts and general managers will get one last opportunity to see him live against top competition before the draft. He has been a projected day-two pick throughout the offseason, and now his status as a top-100 pick in April is in limbo.

The status of Hamsah Nasirildeen hangs in the balance

With the other two Seniors now out for the season, both hurt or no longer with the program, we have to wonder how far behind them safety Hamsah Nasirildeen is. Returning after an ACL injury that ended his season a year ago, Nasirildeen has yet to suit up for the Seminoles in his Senior year.

dark. Next. Virginia Tech OT Christian Darrisaw is on the rise

Nasirildeen had the makings of a day-two pick, and he still very well could be, however with no new tape and now another year older, this season has done anything other than help his 2021 NFL Draft stock. Along with him, it will be interesting to see when and where Terry and Wilson hear their names called this upcoming April.
