Terrace Marshall Jr. continues to pad the 2021 NFL Draft class of receivers

A bit of a shocker hit the LSU football team this past Sunday, as star receiver Terrace Marshall Jr. decided to opt-out for the remainder of the season and begin preparation for the 2021 NFL Draft. This decision comes on the heels of a 20-7 loss this past Thanksgiving weekend to the Texas A&M Aggies and a disappointing 3-4 start for the Tigers. He took a leap into stardom after the opt out of Ja’Marr Chase for the Tigers this season.

Below, I will take a deeper look into the past and current makeup of the ultra-talented, junior receiver as he continues his journey into the NFL this coming April. This report will also include a list of Marshall Jr’s biggest strengths and weaknesses as he looks to solidify himself as a potential first-rounder in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Another elite WR prospect for the Tigers

As another elite WR and prep prospect for the Tigers, Terrace Marshall Jr. came to LSU in 2018 ready to fill the massive shoes of previous stars such as Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry. Just like his predecessors, Marshall Jr. was a top-100 player nationally at the high school level and brought massive expectations with him to Baton Rouge.

Marshall Jr. scored 15 touchdowns as a junior receiver before missing most of his senior year with an ankle injury. He was named to the 2018 Under Armour All-American Team despite the injury and committed to LSU to continue his football playing career as a five-star recruit. The belief here was that Marshall Jr. would carry the torch and legacy as the next great Tigers’ receiver.

The big-time recruit recorded only 12 receptions during his freshman season as a part-time player alongside Ja’Marr Chase and Stephen Sullivan and current Minnesota Vikings’ rookie Justin Jefferson. Marshall Jr. did not record any touchdowns, but the talent and big-play ability were obvious with his 16.0 yards-per-catch average during his freshman campaign.
