There are plenty of 2021 NFL Draft fits for the talented Hubbard

Coming into the 2020 season Oklahoma State running back Chuba Hubbard had the ninth-best odds to win the Heisman trophy. Oklahoma State was predicted to be a dark horse College Football Playoff team by several media outlets. Fast forward to mid-December and things look completely different. 2020 has been less than ideal for Hubbard as he now enters the 2021 NFL Draft.

Dealing with a nagging injury and simply not performing to the best of his capabilities this season, maybe returning to school wasn’t the best football decision. His 2019 season was one for the books. He totaled 2,094 rushing yards, which led the country. In doing so, he also had 21 rushing yards on the season.

Chuba became the first Oklahoma State running back to run for 2,000 yards since the late great Barry Sanders. His stock was high after last season and we all expected big things for him in 2020. After seeing the stellar play from other guys like Javonte Williams and Michael Carter, Hubbard is no longer the consensus top-three running back in the 2021 class. This season Hubbard looked much less explosive, he rushed for just 625 yards and five touchdowns in seven games for the Cowboys.

More from With the First Pick

Dan Schmelzer of NFL Mocks says Hubbard has left plenty to be desired:

"“Hubbard is an explosive player who does a great job of making the most out of his current opportunity. However, playing in the Oklahoma State offense against Big 12 defenses has afforded him a perfect situation to shine in college football. He will have to adapt his game in order to survive at the next level. A pure speed back with limited elusiveness and little pass-catching prowess is unlikely to have consistent success at the next level.”"

More importantly, since announcing his plan to forgo the remainder of the season and prepare for the 2021 NFL Draft, there are several teams who could use a day three pick on a running back like Hubbard. With that being said, let’s take a look at the three best for Chuba Hubbard.
