Would Urban Meyer bring Justin Fields to the Jaguars?

No, Urban Meyer never coached Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields during his tenure in Columbus, Ohio. However, as it is rumored he may be the next head coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars, one has to wonder if he will have any pull as the team has locked down the top pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

If Meyer does have any pull, and should the rumors be true that he is heading to Jacksonville, one has to wonder if his predecessor Ryan Day will have any influence over his quarterback of preference. Should Day a preferred voice into the ear of Meyer, the Jaguars could potentially lean towards Justin Fields over the landslide favorite in Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence.

What are the odds of this happening? The odds are very slim.

However, it’s the NFL Draft and crazier scenarios have played out right before our eyes. In a stacked quarterback class at  the top of the draft, who is to say who the preference of certain teams is under center.

Fields, Lawrence, and the rest of the QB class

There is a clear number one quarterback in this talented class of gunslingers, despite a loss to the Buckeyes in the Sugar Bowl. Lawrence has been the prized jewel over the past three season since he arrived at Clemson as a freshman.

After that, Fields, BYU’s Zach Wilson, and North Dakota State’s Trey Lance are battling for QB2. This is left up to the discretion of evaluators and team preference.

Fields has the right to be the first overall pick in any other year, but stacking up against a talent like Lawrence is a big task to take on. Sure, the odds are far and away in the favor of Lawrence to land in Jacksonville, but now with an Ohio State mind potentially taking the Jaguars over, the door has been opened for Fields to land as the first overall pick in the draft.
