Buccaneers: 4 running backs to target in 2021 NFL Draft
By Loren Miller
3. Javonte Williams, North Carolina
After an outstanding junior campaign, the 5-foot-10 and 220 pound back declared for the draft before his team participated in the Orange Bowl to focus on the draft. In 2020 North Carolina’s Javonte Williams rushed for 19 touchdowns, averaged 7.3 yards per carry and finished with 1,140 on the ground.
He is a little bit shorter but he runs with toughness and strength willing to take on defenders even multiple at one time. He takes hits and is low to the ground to be shifty and explosive at the line of scrimmage. Williams runs with patience and waits for his blocks to be set up before attacking the holes made for him.
He can also catch the ball out of the backfield something that will be a plus for the Bucs. This past season he had 25 receptions and 350 yards receiving. He could be a guy the Bucs can put in motion and put him outside in the slot.
I would like to see him in the return game because the Bucs historically have been one of the worst return teams in the league. In their history, they only have one kick return and one punt return for a touchdown. As a potential backup running back, he will be counted on for special teams early on.
