Daily Draft Digest: Antoine Winfield Jr., Jets and Darnold, Panthers on the prowl
By Cory Kinnan
Today we take a moment of silence as the 2020 football season has come to and end. That moment of silence is quick lived because it is now officially 2021 NFL Draft season! To celebrate, we bring another edition of Daily Draft Digest, taking a look at a new Super Bowl legend, the New York Jets and their questions under center, and the Carolina Panthers in their pursuit of a new quarterback.
Antoine Winfield Jr. already a viral legend
As the Tampa Bay Buccaneers bask in their Super Bowl victory over the Kansas City Chiefs, one player is basking in his virality as well. Rookie safety and 2020 second round pick Antoine Winfield Jr. became a legend overnight after getting back at wide receiver Tyreek Hill. Earlier in the season, Hill beat Winfield for a touchdown and threw up his “deuces” sign on the way to the endzone.
Late in the fourth quarter last night, Winfield Jr. broke up a pass from Hill, and also proceeded to throw the peace sign right back into the face of Hill, sparking an internet sensation. Commenting on it afterwards, Winfield stated:
"“The taunting, man it’s something I had to do. When we played them earlier Hill went off on us. He backflipped in front of my face and gave me the deuces. So it was only right that I gave him the deuces right back to him. It felt amazing to be able to do that.”"
The Jets and Sam Darnold
After the hire of Robert Saleh and offensive coordinator Mike LeFleur, the original thought was the Jets would be open to keeping former third overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. However, now after Matthew Stafford, and now with likely Carson Wentz on the move as well, it appears Sam Darnold could be the next one on the move.

Adam Schefter of ESPN has reported multiple teams have inquired about Darnold, making him quite a hot commodity. Additionally, the San Francisco 49ers are even potentially a front runner as Darnold has a fan in head coach Kyle Shanahan.
Panthers on the prowl
Reports have arose that the Panthers took a deep look and even made an offer to the Detroit Lions in exchange for Matthew Stafford, eventually traded to the Los Angeles Rams. The Panthers offered the Lions the eighth pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, “and then some” according to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer.
With new general manager Scott Fitterer now on board, it clearly looks like the Panthers are ready to make moves to get their new gunslinger of the future. Could they be a candidate to trade up this April in order to land their new franchise quarterback? If they are, the Miami Dolphins or Cincinnati Bengals are the logical landing spots.
