The quarterback carousel is set to get wild over the coming months leading up to the 2021 NFL Draft, and the Chicago Bears seem to be right in the middle of it all. They are not the only team, however, looking to move a quarterback or inquire about one. As nothing official has happened since the trade of Matthew Stafford to the Los Angeles Rams, there is plenty more action on the horizon. What is the latest?

Bears sniffing around Minshew?

As the Chicago Bears are looking to finalize a deal for Carson Wentz, it seems like they have a backup plan in mind as well. Promoting John DeFilippo to passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach, many though this was a move to fix Wentz upon his arrival. However NFL Insider Ben Allbright says another former quarterback of DeFilippo may also be a target just in case.

The only other three quarterbacks left in that case, then, are Kirk Cousins, Derek Carr, and Minshew. It is highly unlikely the Minnesota Vikings trade Cousins in division, leaving Minshew and Carr as the other two. The Las Vegas Raiders are also not looking to move Carr, but another quarterback instead. Minshew, however, is a minimal at best upgrade over their current quarterbacking situation.

Raiders look to move Marcus Mariota

More from With the First Pick

As mentioned above, the Raiders do no look ready to move Carr just yet. However, they are willing and ready to move former second overall pick Marcus Mariota should a team come calling with the right price. He appeared sparingly, and did so with great efficiency when he replaced the injured Carr, and for a team out of reach for the likes of Justin Fields, Zach Wilson, and Trey Lance, Mariota may be worth the shot. The New England Patriots have been named as a possibility for Mariota.

Matt Campbell gets paid… again

The Iowa State Cyclones give their head coach Matt Campbell another extension, just two years after giving him another. While NFL teams come calling each and every year, Campbell turns them down in order to stay in Ames. However, this extension is because Campbell keeps getting those calls.

In all likelihood, Campbell will make that job to the NFL sooner rather than later. The Cyclones, in this case, are protecting their future the best way they can, and that means making sure Campbell is still under contract so they receive a massive buyout from the NFL team that ends up hiring their current head coach.
