Round 7, Pick 229: Jermar Jefferson, RB Oregon State

The Seattle Seahawks find themselves in a peculiar position when it comes to their running backs in 2021. Both Chris Carson and Carlos Hyde are going to be free agents this offseason and Rashaad Penny has been one of the biggest draft busts in team history. Seattle will go into 2021 with only Penny, Travis Homer, 2020 fourth-round pick DeeJay Dallas, and Patrick Carr on the roster. If neither Carson nor Hyde returns next season, Seattle will have to add one more name to their committee.

Enter Jermar Jefferson, the Seattle Seahawks’ final pick of this 7-round mock draft. Coming from Oregon State, Jefferson is already quite familiar with the Pacific Northwest football scene. His big performance against in-state rival Oregon in 2020 helped the Beavers secure their biggest win of the season against the Ducks. Jefferson rushed for over 220 yards and scored twice against the Ducks.

Adding Jefferson to this running back committee could help ease the pain of losing Hyde or Carson. His ability as a pass-catcher out of the backfield and tendency to make defenders miss could be a welcome addition for Russell Wilson. He works hard to gain yards and would be a great get as a change of pace back in the late rounds.
