49ers, Chiefs showing big interest in Miami TE Brevin Jordan?
Brevin Jordan has flown under the radar compared to consensus top tight end Kyle Pitts, but he appears to have captured the attention of both the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers. According to Justin Melo of The Draft Network, the Chiefs and the Niners are among the teams Jordan has consistently heard from during the pre-draft process.
Jordan is among the most gifted offensive playmakers in the draft, showing the fluidity and change of direction ability to create separation with his route-running, his athleticism enabling him to consistently get open downfield. His abilities in space also make him a constant threat to make things happen after the catch.
The prospect of the Chiefs or 49ers adding Jordan to their ranks is one that should greatly concern the rest of the league, given they each boast elite All-Pro talents at the position. Either with Travis Kelce in Kansas City or with George Kittle on the 49ers, Jordan could form the most dynamic tight end duo in the NFL were he to land in one of those destinations. Much like Kelce and Kittle, Jordan has served as a moveable chess piece on offense, lining up in-line, in the slot, split out wide and in the backfield.
What Jordan brings to both 49ers and Chiefs
His arrival would allow Andy Reid or Kyle Shanahan to present opposing defenses with a variety of different looks while giving the Chiefs or Niners offense significantly more dynamism in two-tight end sets.
Additionally, with both teams suffering from pass protection issues in recent times — the Chiefs famously in their Super Bowl LV loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this month –Jordan’s presence could allow them use Kelce or Kittle more frequently as blockers when the situation calls for it.
Playing for Miami, Jordan was often the top offensive threat and the one opposing defenses could key in on. Operating on the same offense as Kelce or Kittle, that would certainly not be the case, and he would likely be able to benefit from the attention they and the other weapons in Kansas City and San Francisco command.
Rookie tight ends frequently struggle to make an impact in their first season. Were he to land with either the Chiefs or the 49ers, Jordan would be in a spot where he could do significant damage right off the bat.
