Chargers: 3 Trai Turner replacements in 2021 NFL Draft
By Surae Poole
1. Wyatt Davis, Ohio State
Wyatt Davis is an absolute mauler in the run game. His 2019 film speaks for itself. While 2020 was not the season he was hoping for, Davis still showed the ability to move people off the ball. He has good lateral mobility for a man of his size and his power at the point of attack was impressive at times.
Some believe that he’s best suited to play in an inside zone heavy scheme but he’s more than capable of playing in any scheme in the NFL. In addition, Davis has room for improvement with his balance and hand usage. These are things that can be coached up and fixed. Los Angeles must start taking swings at the bat here in the NFL Draft. Davis can bring much-needed athleticism to this offensive line.
He did suffer an injury in the national title game against Alabama so that could be a small concern, especially with the bad luck the Chargers have when it comes to injuries. Protecting a quarterback like Justin Herbert, who can move around in the pocket and extend plays with his feet will serve Davis well. He has the potential to be a starter on day one.
