1. Pat Freiermuth, Penn State
Penn State has had its fair share of successful tight ends in the NFL and is on track to add another to that group. Pat Freiermuth leaves Penn State after his junior season which was cut short due to corona delays and a season-ending surgery after playing in just four games. Freiermuth was one of the most prolific pass catchers in all of college football and racked up great numbers in just 29 games. Freiermuth managed to haul in 92 catches for 1,185 yards and a Penn State tight end record 16 touchdown catches.
Freiermuth has ideal size for the position checking in at 6-foot-5 and 260 pounds and has the hand size to go along with his frame as well. Now Freiermuth is not an elite blocking tight end of the past but is one hell of a receiving weapon. If he can continue to improve on his blocking abilities he has the potential to become a well-rounded, top-tier tight end at the NFL level.
Adding a monster of a target to this offense that already includes Keenan Allen and Mike Williams would give Justin Herbert three massive targets to throw the ball to. Funny enough many in the scouting circles of the NFL compare Pat Freiermuth to Hunter Henry at the next level. This could be a seamless transition for Herbert and the rest of the Chargers offense to add to their existing offensive equation.
