Steelers: 3 Bud Dupree replacements in 2021 NFL Draft
By Cory Kinnan
Day-two option: Ronnie Perkins, Oklahoma
There is not a more violent football player in this 2021 NFL Draft class than Oklahoma pass rusher Ronnie Perkins. Powerful and mean, Perkins dominated every offensive tackle he faced this year on his way to a stunning season with the Sooners that ended in a blowout win over the Florida Gators.
In just six games in a shortened season for Perkins, he racked up 10.5 tackles for loss and five and a half sacks off the edge. The question surrounding Perkins, however, is his off-field actions that have cost him games in the past as he has faced suspensions. There is no question, however, when Perkins is on the field, he is a threat.
At his pro day, we would have liked to see a little more explosiveness pop. However, he tweeted out afterwards that he pulled a hamstring on his 40 yard dash, which threw off the rest of his testing numbers. On the day, Perkins hit just a Relative Athletic Score of 5.16 out of 10. This more than likely takes him out of round one consideration, but top-50 is still in the question. Should he slip a little later, he may fall right into the laps of the Steelers.
