1. Mac Jones, QB, Alabama

How have we gotten to this place where we actually believe that John Lynch, Kyle Shanahan, and company traded three first round picks for Alabama quarterback Mac Jones? While he had a successful 2020 campaign in a very well drawn up offense, Jones does not warrant a top pick in the draft, let alone giving up three first round picks for.

If you are giving up three first round picks, you are not only going to bank on upside but the most polished prospect available as well. Jones is neither of those things of the three quarterbacks who are being discussed. The most on-target passer in the draft? Justin Fields. The top-notch physical tools and insane upside? Trey Lance. Most NFL-ready offensive system? Justin Fields. Translates best into the 49ers’ offense? Trey Lance.

So why are we discussing Jones?

This is more than likely all smokescreen as Kyle Shanahan is far too smart to fall into the trap of Jones, however, there is no guaranteeing that Lynch may not have an ulterior motive. John Lynch deserves to be fired if he did, indeed, trade the immediate future of the 49ers for Jones. Fields is the slam dunk pick for the Niners now holding the third overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Don’t do it Niners, run away. Run far away.
