Lions 2021 NFL Draft primer: Can Jared Goff keep job long-term?
Lions team needs
The top need on this team is undoubtedly wide receiver. With Tyrell Williams, Geronimo Allison, and Breshad Perriman all on one year deals, the Lions need some long term answers at the position. They were fine with letting Kenny Golladay leave in free agency, and they will be sure to look at that position in the draft. Receiver is certainly on their draft board with the seventh pick, and there are countless options on the table.
Another position that the Lions will likely be monitoring in the draft is safety. Tracy Walker appears to be a good young player, but the Lions will likely be playing with two safeties much more than they have in years past. The team brought in former Atlanta Falcon Damontae Kazee for a visit, but he will also be visiting with the Dallas Cowboys. Safety on day two seems extremely likely for Detroit at this moment.
One more area of need on the Lions roster is cornerback. With Trufant and Coleman departing, the Lions are left with just Okudah and Amani Oruwariye at the position. Defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn is likely to bring a lot of man coverage concepts from New Orleans, where he was key in the development of several defensive backs. The Lions may be unlikely to take a cornerback at seven after taking Okudah in the top three in 2020.
