Could Dallas reunite two former Alabama cornerbacks?

The Cowboys pulled the trigger on Surtain II’s former Alabama teammate Trevon Diggs in the second round of the 2020 draft. He was in fact one of the few bright spots on the Cowboys defense this past season. Diggs has also endorsed the Surtain II-to-Dallas connection which makes complete sense as they were one of the best cornerback duos in the SEC and in the country as a whole when they alongside each other. For Dallas, their familiarity would be beneficial moving forward as both players have future Pro Bowl potential.

In Surtain II, the Cowboys would receive a big corner who is fully committed to staying physical on the perimeter using his long frame. Sticking with the Alabama theme, Surtain’s physical nature and body type mimic that of Ravens’ two-time Pro Bowler Marlon Humphrey. His ball skills are clear as well. He understands when to play on the ball, his awareness is unmatched, and since he was excellent in this area while in the SEC with top-tier competition, he’ll be able to translate these tendencies in the pros.

Don’t let his low interception numbers fool you. Several quarterbacks wouldn’t look his way because one side of the field was essentially locked down. With 24 pass breakups at Alabama, Surtain II sells his potential as a true ball tracker as he continues to improve.
