Round 4, Pick 109: Trill Williams, CB, Syracuse

Trill Williams has the first-round name, and I’m sure he keeps it Trill. We know that the Seahawks like their big and long cover corners to stick in a cover-3 base scheme. Williams may barely stand at 6-foot tall, but he primarily lines up as a nickel corner, making him a big nickel. Although this is the Seahawks’ second pick, fans will understand that this is the fourth round. Most teams are looking for sub-package defenders and versatility across all 22 positions at this point.

The former Syracuse defensive back is exactly what a team should be looking for in their sub-packages. Williams can play as a free safety and nickel cornerback, covering down on opposing slot receivers and tight ends. Not to mention, Williams is a striker when he has a target. The open-field tackling needs to be cleaned up, but he can come down and fill a lane.

If you think of a player like Kamren Curl from Washington, who went in the seventh round of last year’s draft, Williams could be that type of player. Curl was impactful as a two-high defender and sub-package defender before taking over for Landon Collins full-time. If you want Williams to develop into a boundary corner, you will be doing him a disservice. Let him be a sub-package weapon and watch him thrive with Jamal Adams and company as they roam the field.

Joe Marino of The Draft Network provided glowing analysis regarding Williams:

"“Williams is long, rangy, athletic, physical, and aggressive. His physical skill set is exceptional and he doesn’t have any restrictions. He is springy and explosive, capable of thriving in both man and zone coverage. “"
