TE Isaiah Likely

Isaiah Likely is one of a few tight ends competing to be the top player at the position in the 2022 NFL Draft. After a strong performance at the 2022 NFL Combine, his stock is trending in the right direction to at least be one of the first few taken in the 2022 NFL Draft, with the Coastal Carolina Pro Day and private workouts presenting his last opportunities to try and claim the top spot.

There are good reasons why teams are looking at Likely as a potential top tight end in the 2022 NFL Draft. Isaiah Likely is an intelligent man, and that intelligence translates on and off the field, which is beneficial for a player trying to transition from college football to the NFL. Another critical reason teams like Isaiah Likely is his athleticism, as his speed and power were apparent during the NFL Combine and on film.

His ability to make big plays will entice teams into taking him high because playmaking tight ends are valuable to almost every NFL team. Modern tight ends need to block like offensive linemen and catch like wide receivers, and Isaiah Likely has the skills to do that for an NFL team.

Likely is not a perfect prospect, as he is a home run hitter who can strike out at times because he is trying to make a big play. His big-play mentality also creates the appearance that he takes some plays off to save energy for the next big play. During the NFL Combine, he went full-speed the entire time, so that may be an issue that does not follow him from college, but it is a concern. Being an elite athlete and playmaker is excellent, but being consistent and predictable is more critical for some teams.

For teams willing to play to Isaiah Likely’s strengths and hide his weaknesses, he can be a quality starting tight end by the beginning of the 2022 NFL season. Keep an eye on Isaiah Likely during the 2022 NFL Draft, as he has the potential to be the top tight end in the 2022 class. Even if a team does not take him as the top tight end, he could be the best statistical tight end of the group because of his skill set.
