The Arizona Cardinals might own the top of the 2024 NFL Draft

There is a real possibility that the Arizona Cardinals have the top two picks in the 2024 NFL Draft. This is something worth keeping an eye on.  The Cardinals have a ton of draft capital in 2024, and it might end up benefitting them to be a bad team, as weird as that sounds.

The Houston Texans were active in the top of the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft, and they traded up to the third overall pick that once belonged to the Arizona Cardinals.

Part of what the Cardinals got back in that trade was the Texans’ first round pick in 2024.  So, as of now, the Arizona Cardinals have their own first round pick and the Houston Texans’ first round pick in next year’s draft.

Depending on where you’d go to get your win predictions for the teams for the 2023 season, you may see the Texans and the Cardinals as teams projected for the least amount of wins.  I do think the Cardinals will likely be picking first overall.

Their roster is poor at best and Kyler Murray may not take a snap in the 2023 season.  With a brand new coaching staff and front office leadership, this could be a lean year for them.

The Houston Texans are continuing on with their rebuild, and both CJ Stroud and Will Anderson Jr can help spur that rebuild along.  I do think the Texans have an underrated roster, especially on defense, and I’m not sure we should be looking at them as one of the worst teams in football.

In fact, I think this team can finish second in the AFC South, but I don’t think this team could win more than seven games in 2023.

Either way, it does seem rather likely that the Arizona Cardinals and Houston Texans would be two of the worst teams in football in 2023.

And depending on how poor both teams are, the Arizona Cardinals could be looking at having the top two picks in the 2024 NFL Draft, which could be a generationally altering draft for them.

Two of the best players in the 2024 class at this point appear to be USC QB Caleb Williams and Ohio State WR Marvin Harrison Jr.

I’d guess that Arizona would likely take those players with their first two picks, which could then open up a brand new can of worms with the future of Kyler Murray.

We’ll see what happens, but the Arizona Cardinals could have a treasure chest worth of draft capital in 2024.
