The Detroit Lions broke out a bit in 2022 and finished with a winning record. Could they be even better in the 2023 season?  Outside of their two abysmal first-round picks in 2023, the Detroit Lions have aced the 2023 offseason.

They added to their weakest area, which was their secondary.  New faces in Cam Sutton, Emmanuel Moseley, CJ Gardner-Johnson, and Brian Branch are going to have huge impacts on the secondary, and the defense as a whole, which was one of the worst in the NFL last year.

They also made some additions on offense, including bringing back Marvin Jones Jr, and drafting Jahmyr Gibbs and Sam La Porta.  This team is in a great position to win the NFC North in 2023.

Bold predictions for the Detroit Lions in the 2023 season

Detroit Lions win double-digit games

The Lions have not won double-digit games in a season since 2014, when Matthew Stafford, Jim Caldwell, and Calvin Johnson were running the show.  This year will finally break that streak, as I think they’ll win at least 11 games on the backs of an elite offense and a much-improved defense.

This is a legitimate team now.  Don’t sleep on the Lions.  They are well-coached, have talent on both sides of the ball, and are very scrappy.

Detroit Lions rank top 10 in passing yards allowed

The Detroit Lions had the third worst passing offense in the 2022 season.  They allowed a whopping 4,179 yards and 26 touchdowns.  This year, not only will they improve on that ranking, but they’ll rank inside the top 10.

Their secondary talent should be considered one of the best in the NFL.  Their projected starting secondary has the potential to be very good, and I think the culture that is being instilled in Detroit will have a great impact on the newcomers in that unit.

Detroit Lions win the NFC North

You could have probably guessed this was coming when I projected the Lions to win double-digit games in 2022.  The NFC North is a weaker division.  The Green Bay Packers finished 8-9 last year and lost Aaron Rodgers.

I think the Chicago Bears are still a year away, but I would not be surprised if they won 7-9 games, and the Minnesota Vikings went 13-4 last year, but had a negative point differential and won nearly all of their close games.  That isn’t going to happen this year.

This year will be the year of the Lions.  They’ll win the NFC North and secure a top four seed in the NFC and a home playoff game.
