2023 NFL Season: Ranking the 32 starting quarterbacks
No. 27 – No. 23

27. Desmond Ridder, Atlanta Falcons

Desmond Ridder looked competent in his limited action with the Atlanta Falcons in the 2023 NFL season.  I trust Arthur Smith as a play-caller and QB developer to turn Ridder into a solid starting QB in the NFL.  However, we are still very low in the rankings, and like many QBs thus far, we just do not know a ton.

26. Baker Mayfield, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

I think if Baker Mayfield wants to continue playing in the NFL, he’ll have to join the “high quality backup/spot starter” tier with the likes of Andy Dalton and Teddy Bridgewater, and that’s OK!  Mayfield has not lived up to his draft status but will occasionally look the part.

25. Kenny Pickett, Pittsburgh Steelers

Kenny Pickett threw more interceptions than touchdowns in his rookie season and I just do not see why people are picking him to breakout in 2023.  I don’t think he does anything particularly well or above average.  He’s going to be the AFC version of Kirk Cousins, at best.

24. Mac Jones, New England Patriots

Mac Jones looked like a franchise QB during his 2021 rookie season, but his regression in 2022 has dropped him way down in the rankings.  If he can build on his rookie season and set the 2022 season to the side, he’ll rise up these charts.

23. Jimmy Garoppolo, Las Vegas Raiders

One thing I have never been able to get on board with is the Jimmy Garoppolo train.  I don’t think he’s that great; he had a nearly perfect situation in San Francisco with an elite offensive line, play-caller, and running game.

He won’t have two of those things as a Raider and I think he’ll play at a replacement level.
