NFL Free Agency: Potential fits for Kirk Cousins in 2024

Denver Broncos

Another team who may be a good fit for Kirk Cousins in 2024 and beyond is the Denver Broncos.  The Broncos were interested in Cousins back during his free agent tour in 2018, but the team pivoted to Case Keenum after losing out on Cousins.

The biggest factor here is obviously QB Russell Wilson.  What if Russell Wilson is indeed washed up?  What if even Sean Payton can’t “fix” him?  Well, in that case, why would the Broncos keep him on the roster?  There’d be no point.

The Broncos also invested over $200 million into their team this offseason and have a very solid core of young and veteran players.  If Wilson flounders, it might make more sense for Denver to try and run it back with a different QB, as they don’t have any notable free agents next year and may field a very good team on defense and parts of the offense even if Wilson stinks it up.

Kirk Cousins might also be a perfect fit to work with Sean Payton.  Like I’ve said, he’s a pure pocket passer, and Payton worked with one of those guys by the name of Drew Brees for years in New Orleans.  Brees played the most efficient football of his career during the last several seasons of his time in the NFL, and he was in his late-30s.

It’s not outrageous to think that Cousins could be very efficient into his late-30s if he was playing for an offensive mastermind like Sean Payton, so I think the Broncos are a potential fit.
