16. Detroit Lions- Shon Coleman, OT, Auburn

In-Depth Scouting Report

Auburn’s Shon Coleman is flying under the radar and needs to be getting more attention. This is an elite athlete who plays with a nasty streak. He’s a complete player in that he can protect the passer and open running lanes. The more I watch of him to more he impresses.

Coleman fits one of the top needs for the Detroit Lions who need to find a way to better protect Matthew Stafford. They also need to establish a running game which was a major issues throughout this past season.

Adding Coleman will allow the Lions to shift Riley Reiff to right tackle where he’ll face less pressure. Reiff is a solid contributor but was overmatch too often at left tackle.

The Lions also need to take the temperature of star wide receiver Calvin Johnson. He has recently discussed that he isn’t sure of his future and might consider retiring. Losing Johnson would be a major blow to the offense.

It would create a hole at the wide receiver position and force the Lions to considering using an early pick on the position. Ideally, Ole Miss’s Laquon Treadwell would slip to this spot but that seems like a stretch at this point.
