The NFL is great at scheduling in the drama of players going against their old teams. Will Brandin Cooks get revenge on his old team the New Orleans Saints?

In week one, we saw what happens when a player like Adrian Peterson who wants revenge on his old team is denied it.  Peterson wanted to show out against the Minnesota Vikings but he was on the sideline for most of the game but Brandin Cooks’ is in a place to hurt his old team.

Brandin Cooks (Patriots) Vs New Orleans Saints

Brandin Cooks was the New Orleans Saints best wide receiver the past few seasons but they felt his trade value was greater than his real value to the team, so they traded him.  The Saints got the New England Patriots 2017 first and third round picks for Cooks.

Those picks turned into OT Ryan Ramczyk and DE Trey Hendrickson.  Ramczyk is the Saints starting left tackle and that’s a very important position.  If Ramczyk ends up being the Saints left tackle for the next ten years, then that might be worth trading a player like Brandin Cooks.

By trading Cooks, the Saints obviously believed they can win without him.  But what if the Saints lose this game because of Cooks performance against them?  Both teams need to win this game badly, as going 0-2 is not the kind of hole that playoff teams typically climb out of.

So how will the Saints feel if Cooks shreds through their defense and helps the Patriot come away with the win?  The Saints would never admit they made a mistake.  But going 0-2 and playing in a division like the NFC South is a hard pill to swallow.

I think if the Saints had to do it all over again, they may have held on to Cooks.  Brandin Cooks has had the privilege of playing with two future Hall of Fame quarterbacks.  However, the Patriots are the best run organization in football and Cooks’ talents are amplified on their roster.

But there’s no guarantee the Patriots will beat the Saints, especially with the way they looked in week one.  And the Saints are just as desperate for a win as the Patriots are. However, the Patriots chances of beating the Saints are better with Brandin Cooks catching passes from Tom Brady as opposed to him catching passes from Drew Brees.
