Reason would tell us that the Los Angeles need to hang on to Sammy Watkins. They gave up some assets in the trade with the Buffalo Bills to bring him to town. Watkins is also the most talented receiver on their roster.

The problem is that Watkins is struggling to make a connection with quarterback Jared Goff. His inconsistent production this year will make it tough for the Rams to feel comfortable about giving him a big-money deal.
Watkins’ injury history is another thing hanging over potential contract negotiations. However, the Rams might be willing to use the Franchise Tag in order to give themselves another year to make a decision.
It’s also possible that Watkins can find his groove at some time this season. He has elite talent and is still learning Sean McVay’s offense. The relationship between Goff and Watkins is also still developing. Maybe more importantly, Goff is in the early stages of his development and will improve as the year progresses.
Overall, everything seems to be lined up for Watkins to return to Los Angeles. It’s really just a matter of what type of contract he will receive.
