4. Brian Burns – Carolina Panthers

The Panthers have silenced the doubters who believed they would struggle to compete without Cam Newton. They have been able to do that partly because Brian Burns has quickly proved those who questioned his potential as a pro pass rusher wrong.

Burns already has 2.5 sacks to his name, with his speed off the edge and his arsenal of pass rush moves helping the Panthers get back to 2-2 after dropping their opening two games at home.

The former Florida State defensive end has laid concerns over his size to rest and was named Defensive Rookie of the Month. If he continues to make pivotal contributions to keep the Panthers in the hunt, he could be in contention for season-long accolades.
