Scouting Report

Friermuth turned the tight end class upside down when he became eligible for the draft and forced people to take a dive into his tape a year earlier than expected. Now that he is eligible, the question of if he declares still remains uncertain but he has a lot to like that should make him come out. Standing at 6’6” 256lbs, Freiermuth shows a lot of ability as a game changing tight end who will be effective split out in passing downs.

He uses his size to create a large catch radius across the middle of the field which can be a quarterback’s best friend. He shows good ability as a linear athlete who can get to where he needs to get to while looking very smooth doing so. He has the quickness to separate as a router runner who shows a solid ability to get in and out of his breaks. He’s a guy who you can trust to run the whole route tree with solid foot speed and he is fearless catching the ball over the middle and exposing himself to a hit or two.

Freiermuth shows good concentration and body control when having to high point the football over defenders or when in the middle of the field. Has good hands that make him strong at the catch point to win in contested catch situations. Freiermuth shows hows a lot of ability as an inline blocker that uses his hand strength to latch on to defenders while being able to sit his weight down and not get driven backwards.

This thin tight end class got a huge boost from him when he was made eligible. Pat Freiermuth will most likely see himself be the first tight end taken off the board as a tight end with Zach Ertz type receiving abilities and elite upside.
