There are athletic concerns for Claypool but he is a big bodied receiver who understands how to win at the catchpoint consistently. Claypool comes with a very good frame at 6’4” and 229lbs that he understands how to win with consistently. He is surprisingly a smooth athlete for his size and wins a lot in the intermediate area of the field.
Notre Dame’s willingness to not limit him to being a jump ball receiver has helped his stock tremendously. He has a chance to possibly carve out a role as a big slot at the next level depending what team he lands on. There will be concerns about his overall athleticism as he lacks straight-line speed and explosiveness so the NFL Combine will be huge for his stock.
Most importantly, he gets the chance to perform in front of scouts at Senior Bowl week down in Mobile which could ease some of those concerns as well. Chase Claypool is a very solid prospect who is playing his best football at the right time of the season.
