It wasn’t long ago that the Miami Dolphins were nearly a sure thing to be picking first overall. It was also expected that they would take Tua Tagovailoa with that selection. “Tank for Tua” was a thing for a while, but times have changed. However, it may work out for the Dolphins, who could still get their guy at #4 overall.
Tua has the arm talent to be worthy of a top five pick. He can make every throw, and his numbers are certainly top notch. Medical evaluations are going to be huge, though. With two fairly major ankle injuries and now a serious hip injury on record, he has question marks. If he’s cleared, he can still be special and an easy pick here.
The Lions are near the bottom of the league in terms of sacks this season. They have also given up more points than all but six other teams. There are a number of defensive additions they could make here, but Derrick Brown is the highest graded available. The defensive tackle automatically upgrades the line.
Brown doesn’t get as much attention as Chase Young, but he should. He has been a dominant player for multiple seasons, with 33 tackles for a loss in his college career. He has tremendous power, but is light on his feet and will make an impact with his interior pass rush.
Last year, the Cardinals drafted quarterback Kyler Murray with the first overall pick. This season, Murray has been sacked more than any other passer in the league. Some of that may be a function of Murray’s youth and propensity to use his legs, but the offensive line definitely needs an upgrade.
Tristan Wirfs will be the top tackle available on some boards. He has great footwork and is effective in both the run and passing game. Right tackle is where he lined up, but has the skills to play on either side, and the Cardinals need help all over the line. He is a pretty easy pick here.
