How did Jordan Love’s decline in 2019 affect his stock in the 2020 NFL Draft?

Jordan Love had a disaster 2019 season for someone with hopes of being a franchise Quarterback for an NFL team. After a promising 2018 season, which had Love as one of the favorites to be an early draft pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. In 2019, he felt the effects of losing head coach, Matt Wells, and almost every single weapon he had on offense.

Love’s numbers took a massive hit in 2019. Love saw regression in all major statistics in 2019, compared to his stellar 2018 season. His touchdown numbers dipped from 32 to 20. But the most concerning of all these numbers is the interception rate. Love went from throwing only six interceptions in 2018, to a whopping 17 this season.

There are a myriad of factors that played into Love’s regression. One of them being what he had at his disposal in his final season at Utah State. Head coach, Matt Wells, left the city of Logan, to go to Lubbock, Texas to become the next Head Coach of the Texas Tech Red Raiders. Love’s very talented running back, Darwin Thompson, left for the NFL, after the 2018 season.

The fall off in production is definitely concerning, but shouldn’t necessarily affect Love’s draft stock. After all, Sam Darnold, Josh Allen, and Josh Rosen all played worse in their final year in college than they did in the year that they began to garner serious NFL attention, and all were picked in the top ten.
