Darrynton Evans, Appalachian State

A hot rising name in the 2020 NFL Draft at this point is Appalachian State running back Darrynton Evans. Should the Rams look for another speedy running back with the versatility to catch the ball out of the backfield to replace Todd Gurley, then Evans may just be their guy. Another caveat: with his draft stock relatively unknown, he may not be a late-round sleeper anymore.

More from Los Angeles Rams

Not only did Evans rush for nearly 1,500 yards, averaging nearly six yards per carry, and 18 touchdowns for the Mountaineers in 2019, but he also caught 21 passes out of the backfield for an additional 200 yards and five touchdowns through the air. A versatile back, Evans will find a niche in the modern NFL and thrive. The Rams should hope that is in their blue and gold uniforms.

A 4.41 second 40 yard dash, a 37 inch vertical jump, and a 10-foot-five broad jump, Evans displayed at the combine last month that he is an ultra-explosive prospect. A shifty, elusive playmaker, one lucky NFL team is going to land one of the steals of the 2020 NFL Draft.

With the release of Todd Gurley, a weapon the Rams deployed as a receiver out of the backfield with frequency, Evans (and I guess Henderson for that matter) would be a nice piece to use as a filler for the hole left by the Pro Bowl running back.
