He reunites with a familiar face

While head coach of the Maryland Football program Mike Locksley and Taulia Tagovailoa were never at the University of Alabama at the same time, Tagovaila entering just his true sophomore year, Locksley was without a doubt played a heavy hand in his recruitment to Tuscaloosa. This is a win-win situation for both Locksley and Tagovailoa.

More from With the First Pick

Locksley’s first year as the top dog with the Terrapins did not go quite as planned, achieving just a three win season in 2019. Even more so, Locksley had a nightmare under center after Jalen Hurts chose to head to Oklahoma instead of Maryland, and Josh Jackson and Pigrome could not take control of the reigns.

Tagovailoa had no connections to Florida International or Florida Atlantic, except being close to his brother in South Beach. It is never an easy transition to change programs and learn a new playbook, get used to new teammates, a new city and state, and more, so having a familiar face with a familiar playbook may help Taulia flatten that curve a bit.

Maryland is becoming Alabama northeast, as first Locksley, now Tagovailoa head to the University of Maryland. They have up to three years together to try to get Maryland back to competition and to prove they belong in the Big Ten.
