5-star recruit Caleb Williams lands with the Oklahoma Football program

Big news in the recruiting world, as the Oklahoma football program has landed five-star quarterback Caleb Williams. The class of 2021 fourth overall prospect, Williams commits to the Sooners over the likes of North Carolina, Georgia, Texas A&M, Alabama, Florida State and many more.

Oklahoma should be a no brainer for highly ranked high school quarterbacks, as Lincoln Riley has historically pulled the best out of his playmakers since taking over the program. Williams now looks to join the high ranks of these former Sooner quarterbacks.

Caleb Williams the next in this line of QBs for Oklahoma football?

More from With the First Pick

Since taking over as the Oklahoma football head coach, Riley has done nothing but produce Heisman nominated quarterbacks, including two winners. For Caleb Williams, this is the appeal as he now heads to Norman, Oklahoma in hopes of adding his name to that list.

First it was Baker Mayfield, who won the Heisman Trophy in 2017 and then became the first overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. Next in line was Kyler Murray, who put Oklahoma back-to-back as not only Heisman winners, but as first overall picks as well.

Mayfield was a transfer quarterback from Texas Tech, Murray a transfer from Texas A&M, then maybe Riley’s greatest feat: he pulled the most out of Alabama transfer Jalen Hurts a year ago. After Hurts was beat out by Tua Tagovailoa the year before, he headed to Norman for the last year of his eligibility, and it ended in a trip to the Heisman ceremony for him as well (then as a second rounder in the 2020 NFL Draft).

Next. Go-to rookies on every NFL AFC South roster to watch. dark

Three years as head coach, three Heisman Trophy finalists (with two wins). Riley has something brewing in Oklahoma, and Williams is wise to call it home. While Spencer Rattler is next in line for the Sooners, Williams is a class of 2021 player, so he could realistically redshirt in 2021, Rattler could declare (if he joins this list), then the newest Sooner could take over as a redshirt freshman.
