Desmond King, CB

Desmond King had an incredible 2018 season that resulted in him being selected as a First-Team All-Pro. In 2018 King was arguably one of the best slot defenders in the NFL. According to Pro Football Focus, he had a coverage grade of 90.1 in 2018. He finished the 2018 season with 56 tackles, 10 pass deflections, three interceptions, and one touchdown.

King finished the 2019 season with a coverage grade of 69.6. He also finished last season with 49 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and two pass deflections. There was a significant drop in production and King simply didn’t look the same last season. After getting into Anthony Lynn’s doghouse last season he just might be on his way out the door if his play doesn’t improve.

With the addition of Chris Harris Jr, there’s been some speculation of where King is going to play in 2020. Harris is most effective when working in the slot and that’s obviously where King played all last season. Gus Bradley might want to move King to the outside corner or safety. The backend of the defense is loaded with talent and if King has another lackluster season don’t be surprised if the Chargers look to move him before the deadline or simply not offer him another contract after 2020.
